Makes your projector the worst it can be!, April 14, 2011

This review is from: FAVI 4:3/40-Inch Portable Tabletop Projector Screen (TS-PICO-40) (Electronics)

At the time I write this, there were two other reviews for this screen, both pretty negative. I should have listened… I liked the idea of a high gain screen given variability in lighting conditions with a portable unit. I thought it might match up well with my Optoma PK301 pico projector. Boy was I wrong! The coating used to reach the high gain value is so metallic that it ruins the image. Colors are blown out, detail is completely lost, and it actually creates a blurring effect. I’m really not exaggerating. I honestly can’t understand how an engineering team looked at this and said, “Yeah, this is great!”

I compared this to a 1.0 gain Epson Duet and even a piece of cheap blackout cloth and both were much better than this. A spray painted cinder block wall would have less texture. It’s going right back to Amazon!! Run, do not walk away from this product!

Great design, terrible screen!, March 19, 2011

I recently purchased and returned this screen. I bought it for use with a Pico projector (Optoma PKA21).

It’s portability and design function are great. However the screen material that claims a 2.5 screen gain is terrible! The reflective material in the screen creates a reflective “grainy-ness” that is very distracting when watching video of any kind. I get better results when projecting on the textured wall at home. It may work fine for office presentations but that is not what I bought it for; I bought it for streaming Netflix over my phone and projecting it through the Pico projector when I travel.

I have a Da-Lite white 1.5 screen gain screen in our home theater that I would reccomend over this screen material.

I hope this helps.

The silver screen seems to make it more difficult to see and the “springs” in the edges are so tight that it won’t allow the screen to stay expanded. They slide together unless I tape down the feet and I am hoping it will stop doing that soon.
